College football’s week 1 slate is never difficult to find big favorites. There are some big-time games, but those are dwarfed with the amount of heavy favorite versus major underdog.

So parsing through the favorites list, trying to find that team that will actually win by four touchdowns is a chore at times in week 1 college football action. But much like my favorite three underdogs, there are options to consider for this week’s college football action.

And just in case you’re looking for more college football action, consider entering college football contests. When you do, reach out to Vegas Football Proxy, who can set you up for the season with college football and NFL contests.

Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech (-2)

I’m not buying into the Rebels this season.

We’re getting more removed from the years of Hugh Freeze, and regardless what you think about Freeze and the fact that Ole Miss is staring at another season without a bowl opportunity, there was plenty of talent and skill level on the field.

The Rebels will employ some top-tier talent, but it’s not on the level that Freeze had it while he was head coach.

Texas Tech can compete with the skill level that Ole Miss will employ. The Red Raiders are offensively gifted, with a defense that is making some strides, with experience returning from a unit that improved last season.

And it doesn’t hurt that this game means more to the Red Raiders. Kliff Kingsbury is battling for his job. The Mississippi coaching staff is battling to keep their players’ attention during the season.

Texas State at Rutgers (-16.5)

Sometimes you have to dig deep in week 1 of the college football season. And I’m digging at the bottom of the competitive barrel.

Texas State is terrible. They’re probably going to be a bottom-five team in FBS this season and they have 12 seniors on their entire roster.

I’m not saying Rutgers is going to challenge for a Big 10 title, but they’re light years ahead of the Bobcats. The Scarlet Knights have a decent defense and the offense should be able to move the ball better against Texas State than it does against Big 10 competition.

Louisiana Tech (-10) at  South Alabama

Like I said, dig deep in week 1.

This is a major mismatch. South Alabama has a new coach and the talent has left after a few years of respectability. The offense has too many pieces to replace, and up front, the Jaguars can’t compete with many teams.

Louisiana Tech, meanwhile, is returning several pieces to its high-scoring offense from a year ago, along with a defense that made some improvements last season.

There is a major talent disparity between these two teams and 10 points just isn’t enough. Louisiana Tech is a known offensive commodity and South Alabama won’t come close to keeping up.

Don’t sweat the 10 points in this game. — Go Chalk with Louisiana Tech
