I came crashing back to earth in week 5, going 2-4 against the spread in college football handicapping.

It was bound to happen, but now that I’ve got that out of the way, it’s time to get back to the winning ways.

Conference play is in full gear now, so the games should be a lot closer than what we’ve seen already this season.

Here’s my favorite three week 6 college football underdogs that will cover the spread.

Underdogs: 12-3 ATS

Overall: 21-9 ATS

Minnesota (+3.5) at Purdue

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. The Golden Gophers failed me last week against a Maryland team starting a third-stringer.

This is a new week and I still believe this Golden Gophers team has more talent than the Boilermakers. This spread started out as even and was shot up to more than a field goal, likely in response to former Purdue coach Joe Tiller’s death.

Emotion plays a big part in college athletics, so the emotions on game day will be at a high for this team. But sometimes talent wins out and Minnesota has a good enough offensive line, that it shouldn’t have any problems moving the ball against a Purdue defense that I still have my doubts about.

This game will be close, but Purdue doesn’t deserve to be more than a field goal favorite just yet. Grab the value with Minnesota. — Go Against The Chalk with Minnesota

Wisconsin at Nebraska (+12)

Everybody’s sleeping on Nebraska based on that ugly loss earlier this season to Northern Illinois. I’m not dismissing that loss, but I believe that’s not the Cornhuskers team we’ll see in week 6.

Nebraska has quietly rattled off two straight wins, and will face a Wisconsin team that hasn’t really played anybody of value this season. We’re all on the Badgers hype train, but who have they beaten? A 2-2 Northwestern team at home by nine points? A 1-4 BYU team on the road?

This team hasn’t been challenged. That will happen this week in Lincoln, Nebraska. Nebraska’s biggest problem has been taking care of the football, with 10 turnovers so far this season. Those even out during the season, so I’m banking on the Cornhuskers taking better care of the football and staying in this game until the very end. — Go Against The Chalk with Nebraska

Miami at Florida State (+3.5)

This game is all about value. I know the Seminoles don’t have a quarterback, but how many times can we bet Florida State at home as an underdog?

It’s only been twice since 2011.

The Seminoles still have elite talent on both sides of the football. And freshman James Blackman will continue to improve at the quarterback position.

This game is always close and this won’t be any different. The Hurricanes are better than they’ve been in the past, but I’m not surrendering that many points on the road in this kind of rivalry game.

Florida State still has the better talent all around and that will show in week 6. — Go Against The Chalk with Florida State
