The injuries keep piling up in fantasy baseball.
With Miguel Cabrera’s season-ending injury this week, that leaves more holes on fantasy baseball rosters in need of power. And much like stolen bases, that’s not always an easy find on the fantasy baseball waiver wire.
If you’re in need of more power in your lineup, consider these options currently residing on the week 11 fantasy baseball waiver wire.
Albert Pujols, 1B/DH, Los Angeles Angels
Wouldn’t it be great to get the Pujols of 10 years ago?
That isn’t possible, but he’s getting more regular at-bats with the injury to Shohei Ohtani, and he’s producing at a decent clip in the power categories.
Among first basemen, he ranks sixth with his 37 RBI this season. His 10 homers also aren’t bad, ranking 14th among first basemen.
The main issue why Pujols still resides on the waiver wire in more than half of fantasy leagues on ESPN is that he’s not batting for average anymore — .252 this season — and he doesn’t score many runs — 24 this season, ranking 24th among first basemen.
Sometimes you can’t be choosy on the waiver wire, and with the increased playing time, Pujols does offer decent upside.
Daniel Descalso, 2B/3B/OF, Arizona Diamondbacks
If you want someone smoking hot at the plate, don’t look past Descalso.
He’s been on fire since the end of May, batting .353 with 12 RBI and eight runs scored. Can this keep up? Probably not, but if your lineup is in dire need of some run production, Descalso is showing signs of life.
With A.J. Pollack still not close to being ready to play, expect Descalso to continue to get opportunities at driving in runs. Even though he’s been in the league for nine years, he did total his career-high in RBI just last season.
So while this is likely to be a quick fix, he may have a little more life than we anticipate.
Max Muncy, 3B/1B, Los Angeles Dodgers
Speaking of hot, as of June 12, Muncy has homered in four straight games.
Finally, the Dodgers are showing some life on offense and Muncy’s recent production is a major reason why. In the last 15 games, he has 10 runs, seven home runs and 12 RBI.
Mix in a .463 on-base percentage, and he’s been a boon to fantasy baseball rosters in recent days.
With the Dodgers finally playing to its potential on offense, keep expecting Muncy to have opportunities at the plate. He’s worth a look with more power to come this season.
