Welcome to the 2019 NFL season Deshaun Watson.

Watson broke out of a semi-quiet season with a monster effort, with more than 400 yards passing and five touchdowns in the week 5 thrashing of Atlanta. Watson should continue to show up toward the top of the stat sheet, with a visit to Kansas City in week 6. For the rest of the questionable players, here’s the start ’em, sit ’em for week 6 fantasy football quarterbacks.

Start

Tom Brady vs. New York Giants

Give me Brady again.

He was poised to have a good effort in week 5, and while he turned in a top-10 fantasy performance, he saw his offensive line crumble. Brady also didn’t help himself either and the lack of weapons is starting to show. However, in this instance, I get the Patriots at home on a short week against a New York team that is terrible against the pass.

The Giants are allowing 9.1 yards per pass attempt, the second-worst mark in the NFL. Normally that would be the worst number in the NFL, but Miami is busy setting new records for awfulness.

Brady has gone for more than 20 points in four of five games. Count him in for another one of those games in week 6.

Matt Ryan vs. Arizona Cardinals

Ryan is not always the most trustworthy quarterback in fantasy football. And really, he’s basically someone who just racks up fantasy points in the latter stages of the game, when the Falcons fall behind by so much they have to throw to come back.

But fantasy football isn’t about which player is the best. It’s about which player can score. And Ryan has shown that this year.

He registered more than 30 fantasy points in week 5, giving him 18 or more fantasy points in four of five games. It hasn’t always been pretty, but it’s reasonable to believe he’ll have plenty of room to throw against the Cardinals, which ranks in the bottom-10 of passing yards allowed per pass attempt in the NFL.

Philip Rivers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Rivers was atrocious in week 5 against Denver. He couldn’t get out of single-digits in fantasy scoring, going for just 4.14 fantasy points.

That is terrible.

But I’m not giving up just yet on Rivers. He still has weapons and the Steelers have been through some serious adversity. I’m not sure how much more the Steelers can take, especially if Mason Rudolph doesn’t suit up for week 6.

The Steelers have struggled at times against the pass and I anticipate Rivers will have plenty of opportunities to throw the ball in this one. Don’t pay attention to what happened in week 5. That happens on occasion with the Chargers. Trust Rivers to put up QB1 numbers in week 6.

Sit

Jameis Winston vs. Carolina Panthers

If you can figure out Tampa Bay, please let me know.

Winston wasn’t terrible in week 5, going for two touchdowns, but he passed for just 204 yards against New Orleans. That was coming off solid efforts in weeks 3 and 4, when he went for more than 20 fantasy points.

In this case, though, I don’t anticipate Winston to do much against Carolina. The Panthers own the second-best defense in yards per pass attempt and during the previous meeting, Winston barely registered double-digit fantasy points. Don’t trust Winston in this one.

Carson Wentz vs. Minnesota Vikings

Wentz is a tough one to diagnose. He should have dominated the New York Jets, but failed to do so.

Part of that was gameflow, with the defense doing the majority of the work. However, some of it should fall on the weaponry for the Eagles.

Wentz will get a tough matchup in week 6 against Minnesota, with the Vikings ranking in the top-five in yards per pass defense. This game will be slower than the Eagles want it to be, so don’t expect Wentz to have many opportunities at pass attempts.

Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Los Angeles Rams

Garoppolo is a QB2, but if you’re in a bye week for week 6, skip Garoppolo.

The 49ers are good, but Garoppolo doesn’t have enough to register QB1 totals. He is not quick in his decision-making and the 49ers are set on a running game, with very little help from Garoppolo.

The Rams have struggled in recent weeks against the pass, but don’t take the bait. Garoppolo should be sidelined as a streamer, even with a plus matchup.
