In another example of you really don’t know what to expect on a weekly basis in fantasy football, Daniel Jones led all quarterbacks in fantasy scoring in week 8.

Jones did it against a formerly good defense in Detroit, but has shown some serious cracks in recent weeks. Despite the great day by Jones, there was still room for top-tier quarterbacks at the top of the list, with Deshaun Watson, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers all scoring in the top-five among quarterbacks.

The bye weeks will continue in the week 9 start ’em, sit ’em list for fantasy football quarterbacks.

Start

Jimmy Garoppolo vs. Arizona Cardinals

Garoppolo has been a difficult player to track this season. He’s not going to be a dynamic quarterback on his own. But thanks to a great running game and Kyla Shanahan’s genius on the offensive side of the ball, Garoppolo has had some moments.

And I anticipate he’ll have another one of those moments against an Arizona defense that has not been good against quarterbacks this season.

The Cardinals are allowing the most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season at more than 24 points per game. Shanahan’s coaching will help Garoppolo be in the mix for QB1 totals in week 9.

Matthew Stafford vs. Oakland Raiders

Stafford has been better than many anticipated this season.

The Lions are better overall and Stafford has been consistently putting up solid numbers in fantasy football. Stafford has seven touchdowns combined in the last two weeks compared to two interceptions.

He also has more than 340 yards passing in each of the last two games. This bodes well for Stafford in week 9, too, with the Raiders on tap, which has allowed the third-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season.

Derek Carr vs. Detroit Lions

Carr hasn’t been great this year, but he’s shown some promise in the last few weeks.

Carr registered 285 yards passing and three touchdowns in week 8 against Houston and was regularly trusted by Jon Gruden to make plays.

The week before, Carr managed 293 yards and two touchdowns and regularly helped to move the ball up and down the field against the Packers.

I’ll take Carr again, with the Lions being a bottom-10 defense in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks.

Sit

Carson Wentz vs. Chicago Bears

Without a strong running game, I’m wondering how good Wentz can really be this year.

In five of the last six games, Wentz has less than 200 yards passing. That won’t get the job done in fantasy football, especially against a Chicago defense that has been good enough against offenses to win games.

It’s just been the offense that has been the major issue for the Bears.

Chicago is allowing just 13 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, so I’ll stick with the Bears again as Wentz struggles to put up big numbers.

Philip Rivers vs. Green Bay Packers

Green Bay hasn’t been great in recent weeks against opposing quarterbacks. But I’ll still favor the Packers over Rivers in this matchup.

There is something wrong with the Chargers, especially on the offensive side of the ball. They didn’t do much in week 8 against Chicago during the win and I don’t anticipate much again in week 9 against the Packers.

Turnovers have plagued Rivers this season, so it’s tough to trust him against the Packers, which still rank in the top-10 in fantasy points allowed against quarterbacks.

Daniel Jones vs. Dallas Cowboys

Before you got any ideas to stream Jones, don’t do it.

The Cowboys allow the fourth-fewest fantasy points per game to quarterbacks in fantasy football and Jones has been a train-wreck for much of the year.

There are more weapons in New York now, but it still isn’t enough to believe in Jones.

Don’t get on the bandwagon just yet. The Cowboys should dominate this matchup.
