The dog days of August are upon us. And in the fantasy baseball world, that generally means several fantasy baseball owners are shifting their focus to the fantasy football season.
That means jumping in the two-start pitcher pool will be advantageous, especially with other fantasy baseball owners taking their attention away from the grueling fantasy baseball season.
Here’s the best two-start pitchers for week 17 in the fantasy baseball season.
Julio Teheran, SP, Atlanta Braves
The matchups are impossible to ignore this week for Teheran.
With games against Miami and the New York Mets, Teheran is set up to face two of the worst offenses in Major League Baseball. He’s also available in approximately 50 percent of leagues on ESPN.com, so he’s a viable option off the waiver wire.
With picking up Teheran, you do inherit some risk. Teheran has been a roller-coaster of emotions for fantasy baseball owners in recent weeks. In his last outing, he allowed seven earned runs in just 4 1/3 innings. In his previous two starts, he went at least six innings in each contest and allowed a combined one earned run.
What’s great about Teheran, though, is that you’re getting a pitcher who can register a solid amount of strikeouts. He’s notched at least six strikeouts in four of the last seven games.
Teheran has been inconsistent, but you just can’t look past these matchups.
Ervin Santana, SP, Minnesota Twins
Many fantasy baseball owners have forgotten about Santana, thanks to an extended stay on the disabled list.
He turned in his first start of the season last week, going five innings, striking out five and allowing three earned runs. It wasn’t a great start, but it wasn’t terrible, either.
He’s a solid fantasy baseball option when he’s healthy, so his less than 30 percent ownership stake currently on ESPN.com is wide open for fantasy baseball owners, especially with two starts anticipated this week.
His first matchup is concerning this week against Cleveland, but he follows that with a nice matchup against Kansas City, which is the worst team in Major League Baseball in terms of scoring runs.
Santana’s ownership is going to climb, so jump on him this week and get two starts to sweeten the deal.
