The college football is officially starting in case you haven’t heard.

The slate isn’t overwhelming with intrigue, but it’s football, and it offers some legitimate betting opportunities for those who have been waiting months for football to return. With only two games on the slate featuring FBS teams this weekend, here’s the best bets for anyone desiring an opportunity to get some action in before the college football season gets into full swing.

Hawaii at Colorado State (-14)

This spread seems a little low.

Hawaii is terrible. They’ve been floundering in college football for years and now they’re attempting to change their entire system back to the old-school Hawaii roots of run-and-shoot.

The only problem — the Rainbow Warriors don’t have a proven quarterback. That’s a main problem for an offense that is totally reliant on the quarterback.

Part of the reason for the small spread, with Hawaii having to travel in week 1, is that the Rams aren’t much better. Colorado State lost a ton of talent off of last year’s bowl team. And the defense will need to rebuild after being one of the worst in the conference last year.

However, Mike Bobo seems to have a team capable of rebounding and rebuilding in a quick fashion, especially against a team like Hawaii. Oddsmakers are making too big of a deal about Colorado State’s losses from the year before.

With home-field advantage, along with better talent, this is a no-brainer. — Go Chalk with Colorado State

Wyoming shouldn’t get your bet in the opening week of college football. Flickr

Wyoming at New Mexico State (+4)

The betting public is on the right track in this game.

Oddsmakers opened this spread at six points in favor of the Cowboys, only to see that bet down to four points. New Mexico State was long forgotten as a college football team until last year, the team, led by a solid coaching staff, snapped a 57-year bowl drought.

With a few pieces missing, the Aggies will come into 2018 as an independent, but with a bright future, thanks to Doug Martin as the offensive mind, and former Boston College coach Frank Spaziani as the defensive coordinator.

New Mexico State should still be a solid offensive team with six players returning with experience on the offensive line. And with Spaziani as the defensive coordinator, he helped change one of college football’s worst defenses into a respectable unit last year. There’s no reason why that will be different this season.

As for Wyoming, the offense scares me. Defensively, the Cowboys should be solid once again, but they don’t score enough points to justify this big of a spread on the road in the opening week. — Go Against The Chalk with New Mexico State
