The college football season didn’t start out on a solid note for my handicapping record.
So there’s plenty of room for improvement.
Teams are still learning and getting better, so it’s still a bit of a guessing game on how good teams will be for the 2018 season. In week 2 of the college football season, a few games are jumping out as possible winners.
Here’s my week 2 college football favorites that will cover the spread.

Wyoming at Missouri (-19)
I have major concerns about Wyoming’s offense keeping up with the Tigers attack.
Missouri is a top-tier SEC offense. Wyoming plays a much different style, and so far in two games, it hasn’t shown much on the offensive side of the ball.
They hung tough for awhile at home last week against Washington State, but they couldn’t keep up with the Cougars offense, mustering just 19 points. The week before, against a New Mexico State team that appears to be down, the Cowboys grinded out a 29-7 victory.
This week will take a lot more grinding. Drew Lock is one of the best quarterbacks in college football and will bring in an offense that ranked in the top-10 last year nationally.
The Cowboys are decent on defense, but I’m worried the offense won’t keep up, similar to last week. — Go Chalk with Missouri
Baylor (-15.5) at UTSA
Baylor’s not back, but they’re closer than last year.
The Bears are increasing their talent and Matt Ruhle has things going in the right direction for Baylor after last year’s forgettable 1-11 campaign.
I know it’s only Abilene Christian, but Baylor scored 55 points, showcasing an offense that is ready to compete at a higher level in 2018.
UTSA, meanwhile, is back to being terrible. They were blitzed by more than 40 points to Arizona State last week, which shouldn’t be considered that much better than the Bears.
This is a mismatch on paper and on the field. Baylor should roll to the victory. — Go Chalk with Baylor
Michigan State (-6) at Arizona State
Don’t pay attention to week 1 with these two teams.
Keep an eye on what we anticipated before the season began. The Spartans came into 2018 as an experienced-laden team, with a solid defense to go along with an emerging offense.
The Sun Devils still have an unproven offensive line with a defense that is leaky at best.
So don’t worry about the Spartans’ slow start against Utah State. We’ve seen Utah State do that before to quality competition and there’s no reason to overreact.
The Spartans have the better overall team and this will be a blowout. — Go Chalk with Michigan State
