HOT

David Murphy

Cleveland Indians DH David Murphy may not be the player that most fantasy baseball owners would consider. However, depending on how deep a particular fantasy baseball league is, Murphy would be a solid addition.

He’s on the waiver wire for a reason, though, and that’s because he doesn’t get enough at-bats. When he does get the at-bats, so far this season, he’s made the opposition pay.

Murphy is batting .333 with 13 runs, three home runs and 17 RBIs during only 126 at-bats. Dee Gordon, who leads Major League Baseball in at-bats, has 264 at-bats this year.

The Indians don’t play Murphy against left-handers, but he’s been deadly against rightys. In 21 at-bats during June, he’s batting .381 with a .435 on-base percentage. He’s added three RBIs and four runs.

If he can get more playing time and keep up the production, fantasy baseball owners could ride this hot streak a little longer.

NOT

Corey Kluber

There’s no way fantasy baseball owners would dump Cleveland Indians starter Corey Kluber. He’s too valuable in the strikeout category. But he hasn’t been as sharp as many expected him to be when the season began.

For the season, Kluber does have 111 strikeouts, ranking him fourth in MLB. That’s the good news. His season record at 3-8, along with a rough June, is the bad news.

Kluber has gone eight, seven and five innings in three starts in June and lost them all. In those three starts, he’s come through with nine, four and two strikeouts respectively. He also has allowed eight runs during his last 20 innings of work.

His season ERA isn’t much better at 3.54 with a 1.15 WHIP. He’ll likely turn the corner this season, but many people thought that would happen after he won three of four starts in May, with 50 strikeouts. Since that time, he’s been on his three-game losing streak, making fantasy baseball owners wait just a little longer before he begins producing on a more consistent basis.
