It’s a long season for fantasy baseball owners. After starting out hot, these three Major League Baseball players have cooled off. Should fantasy baseball owners weather the storm or run away?

Take a look at these stats and find out what the future holds.

Jake Marisnick

Houston Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick started the season as hot as any outfielder in MLB.

He batted .379 in April with 10 RBIs and 12 runs. That wasn’t his most impressive stat. He stole eight bases in April, making him a hot commodity in fantasy baseball leagues.

In the last month, he’s being dropped at alarming rates by fantasy baseball owners, based on his recent decrease in production. In May, Marisnick is batting .200, with one stolen base, five RBIs and five runs. His strikeouts have increased from 10 in April to 15 in May.

The outfield position is deep, but Marisnick’s ability to steal bases is a boon to any fantasy baseball owner. He still ranks in the top 10 in Major League Baseball in stolen bases, and is batting .292 for the season. He hasn’t contributed much in the last month, but fantasy baseball owners who are still clinging to Marisnick should hold on to him for another week or two. – Weather the storm

Alex Colome

Injuries have derailed the Tampa Bay Rays pitching staff. The surprising Rays are still above .500, but pitchers like Alex Colome will have to step up in the next few months.

Colome had a promising start to the season, going 2-0 in his first two starts with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Colome wasn’t a fantasy baseball name, but after those starts, owners began picking up the young starter.

However, it’s been all downhill for Colome ever since. He’s 0-1 in his last two starts, allowing 17 hits and 11 earned runs over 9 1/3 innings. There’s question marks surrounding the Rays rotation, so who knows who will take the mound in upcoming games for the Rays. It’s OK to drop Colome at this point. – Run away

Doug Fister

The Washington Nationals are still heavy favorites to go to the World Series. However, so far this season, the team has had to win many of its games without a healthy Fister.

Coming off a year where he went 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA, fantasy baseball owners had high hopes for Fister coming into 2015. Now, he’s on the disabled list after not looking like the Fister from 2014.

He’s on the 15-day DL and is likely to return in a few weeks. So far this season, he owns a 4.31 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP. He’s shown signs of dominance, like in his two shutouts. But he’s also shown the opposite, with allowing four runs or more in three games, including his last outing where he allowed seven runs in two innings against San Diego.

His injury should explain some of his issues, but he should be on a short leash from fantasy baseball owners. Keep him for now, but don’t waste a roster position on him if no DL spots are still available. – Weather the storm
