Tampa Bay starting pitcher Nathan Karns is attempting to reverse the trend that the waiver wire doesn’t include starting pitchers who can record strikeouts.

Karns garnered a career-high 10 strikeouts during his last outing July 4 against the New York Yankees, and he’s likely still available in the majority of fantasy baseball leagues.

Against the Yankees, Karns went seven innings, allowed two earned runs and walked two in a no-decision.

Despite being 1-1 during his last five starts, Karns has allowed six earned runs during that span of 30 1/3 innings, while striking out 34.

His strikeout total in his last six games ranks eighth in Major League Baseball among starting pitchers. All seven pitchers ahead of Karns are highly owned in fantasy baseball leagues.

Karns’ ERA of 2.50 during that same time ranks in the top 30 among starting pitchers.

Fantasy baseball owners usually strike out this late in the season in finding pitchers on the waiver wire who can notch quality strikeout numbers.

Karns has shown the ability during the last month to limit earned runs and total strikeouts, making him a necessary addition for fantasy baseball owners looking for rejuvenation in the pitcher category.
