It’s likely that many fantasy owners have already dropped Miami Marlins closer Steve Cishek.

If you haven’t done so already, there’s no value with Cishek from a fantasy standpoint, since he’s likely out of the closer role for the time being. He pitched May 16 against the Atlanta Braves while the Marlins were down, indicating that manager Mike Redmond will use Cishek in a different role.

It’s no surprise that Cishek would get demoted from the closer role. Cishek is 1-3 this year with four blown saves, with his most recent coming on May 11 against the Dodgers. The good news for Cishek and owners that may be holding on to him is that he pitched two innings May 16, allowing no runs and two hits.

However, it’s hard to look past his 10.32 ERA this season with three saves. This season has been a stark contrast to his previous two, where he registered 39 saves in 2014 and 34 in 2013. During those years, his ERA was 2.33 in 2013 and 3.17 in 2014.

The only reason fantasy owners would keep Cishek on the roster is the hope that he returns to the closer role and reverts back to his old form. However, there are likely other closers on the waiver wire that can deliver today, making it unwise to keep Cishek on the roster.
