It’s been mentioned before. Finding closers on the waiver wire is tough.

For fantasy baseball owners lucky enough to have Texas Rangers newly minted closer Shawn Tolleson still on the waiver wire, don’t delay in picking him up on the mid-week waiver wire.

Since taking over the closer role, Tolleson has picked up four saves in four opportunities since May 20. Sure, he’s not officially the closer yet. However, with the way he’s pitched since Neftali Feliz was placed on the disabled list, he may not lose the job anytime soon.

With Tolleson assuming the closer role, the Rangers are 6-0. It’s not all Tolleson’s doing, but not blowing saves has been one of the main reasons for the Rangers’ recent success.

Feliz was 1-2 with six saves in 17 appearances. He also blew three saves and owned a 5.09 ERA.

Tolleson is producing better numbers with 12 strikeouts per nine innings, up four strikeouts per nine innings from last year. His walk numbers also are significantly better, going from 3.5 walks per nine innings to 1.7 walks per nine innings this year.

He’s never been an everyday closer, so fantasy baseball owners can’t be sure what the future will hold. However, if you’re in a need for closers, there’s not many options available to allow you to be picky.
