Two betting trends are becoming more apparent in the American League West.

Oddsmakers continue to put Houston as an underdog, despite a 13-4 in that role. And the Athletics are the best in Major League Baseball at being in games where the total goes over the established over/under line.

The Astros began the year as a long shot to win the AL West. Now, Houston is 17/10 to win the West, slightly better than the Mariners at 19/10. Houston is even getting the cover as a favorite, going 5-3 in that role.

The West also is home to the surest bet in MLB this season in the totals category. Oakland owns 19 overs in 26 games. The next best in the AL West is the Angels at 13.

Despite the A’s ability to reach the over, the rest of the AL West has bucked the trend in MLB this season, and is relatively similar in regards to the over/under category. The majority of MLB games have reached the over.

However, Texas and Houston are even in the amount of overs and unders, while Seattle owns more unders and the Angels have 13 overs, compared to 10 unders.

The West also has shown an inability to win as a favorite. Seattle, Las Angeles, Texas and Oakland have below .500 records as a favorite, including Texas’ 1-2 record. The Rangers have been an underdog in 21 games, going 7-14.

As an underdog, AL West teams haven’t been much better, with only the Astros having an above .500 record, and Oakland being 3-3 as the underdog.
