This week has been rough for fantasy baseball owners.
Robinson Cano’s suspension and multiple-category fantasy stud A.J. Pollack’s injury will keep him out for more than a month. D.J. LeMahieu and Adrian Beltre also joined the disabled list this week, too, creating plenty of fantasy baseball owners to comb the waiver wire for players to fill holes on their roster.
Here’s three position players to consider to fill your open spots on your fantasy baseball roster.
Ryon Healy, 3B/1B/DH, Seattle Mariners
Healy is hot this month. He’s batting over .330 in May and is starting to resemble the kind of player many people believed he could be before injuries hindered his development.
He provides production in multiple categories, so that’s a plus, especially with so many players entering the DL. He also offers some power, notching seven homers already this season to go with 19 RBI. He’s top-10 in homers among first basemen and top-15 in runs with 18.
He had a terrible start to the season, but this recent surge is more in line of what to expect. He has power, so that should continue and if he can keep up either in runs or RBI, then he can make up for what’s being lost to the DL.
Matt Duffy, SS/3B, Tampa Bay Rays
I’ve been on the Duffy train before, so I’ll stay on that ride.
He’s still available in pretty much every fantasy baseball league, despite being the best source of production in batting average. He’s batting .322 this season, leading all third basemen in Major League Baseball.
His main issue is that he doesn’t do a ton in other categories, but it’s impossible to deny that kind of batting average, which is a counting statistic in category leagues.
If you’re looking for a silver lining in Duffy’s production woes, he has five of his 14 RBI in the last four games, to go with five of his season’s eight runs in the month of May.
He’s starting to make some more noise in other categories, so he’s an easy add off the waiver wire at the moment.
Mark Trumbo, OF/DH, Baltimore Orioles
His batting average won’t stay at its current rate, but he’s a known power source.
Trumbo also had a stint on the DL, but has been on fire since getting back to regular action. He’s batting .327 this season and has scored six of his season’s eight runs in the last week. He’s getting on base at a high clip and is scoring runs at a top-tier rate.
Don’t expect the average to stay that high, but his power will increase from his one home run so far this season.
One of the most important aspects of these players is their versatility, so Trumbo should get some more attention on the fantasy baseball waiver wire.
