Fantasy baseball owners watched what Chicago Cubs pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada did May 20 and now must decide whether to use a roster spot on him or not.

Despite his nine-strikeout debut, he’s still likely available in most fantasy leagues. He only lasted 4 2/3 innings against the Padres, but as mentioned before, he struck out nineĀ batters.

Production like that can be used on pretty much any fantasy roster.

He didn’t get any credit for the win and his ERA is bloated because he surrendered a two-run home run in a short amount of innings.

But, as the season progresses, he’ll likely get more innings, and this week he toes the rubber for two starts.

His Memorial Day start doesn’t seem like a quality matchup as the Cubs square off against the Nationals. However, with Washington having little tape on Wada, that could play to his advantage.

His other start next week comes against the Kansas City Royals. Once again, that’s not a great matchup.

However, if he performs well in those games, fantasy owners may not be able to get him off the waiver wire for long. It’s a gamble and may not pay off, but fantasy owners who need a spark could do a lot worse for their team than Wada.
