Yunel Escobar is hot…and available.

The Washington Nationals third baseman (likely considered a shortstop/third baseman in fantasy leagues) is batting over .300 for the season, and has two 5-for-5 games this month at the plate. And he’s on most waiver wires, at least until Sunday night’s waiver transaction event.

In May, Escobar is 22-for-62, and that includes four games where he went hitless. During this month, he’s had five multi-hit games, with four games with two runs. For the season, he has 20 runs. For third basemen, he has the second-highest runs total in May at 11, behind Chicago Cubs’ Kris Bryant.

Escobar also owns the second-highest batting average this month for third basemen with 10 or more games. Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Aaron Hill has a .425 batting average in 31 at-bats to lead the position in batting average. Escobar has 58 at-bats this month.

Right now, he’s one of the best options available at third base, and can give fantasy owners an option at shortstop if necessary. However, his batting average in the previous three years has been slightly over .250, meaning this could be just a hot month for Escobar. However, he’s with a new team, and that might have rejuvenated his career.

Either way, if you’re not willing to pick him up for next week, he’ll only be available again if he reverts back to his old ways.
