The conference finals of the NBA playoffs will start with one game Tuesday.

The NBA playoffs record so far is 15-32-1. Odds are provided by Oddsshark.com.

Houston at Golden State (-10)

I know we’re all looking for a competitive narrative in this series. It’s the conference finals after all.

However, I’ll choose to side with the oddsmakers. This isn’t going to be pretty.

The Warriors got a gift when the LA Clippers choked away a 3-1 series lead against the Rockets. Basically, Houston wants to get up and down the floor and score a lot of points. That sounds like another team in the Western Conference Finals.

The problem for Houston is that other team happens to be Golden State, and it happens to play far better defense and offense. The NBA playoffs are all about matchups. The Rockets just don’t match up near as well as the Memphis Grizzlies did, and the Grizzlies still lost in six games.

The only way the Rockets can compete is if Dwight Howard can become the Dwight Howard of old. He needs to dominant, and that’s just not going to happen.

Game 1 will be an opportunity for the Warriors to make sure Houston realizes it doesn’t belong. I hate to go with the overwhelming favorite, because I’m sure everyone’s taking Golden State. But once in awhile everyone’s pick happens to be right.

The Rockets are hot against the spread and straight up coming into this series. Don’t buy into those numbers. The Clippers choked and the Warriors won’t make the same mistake. The Warriors will win and it won’t be close. Pick – Golden State
