There’s not much reason to watch the Philadelphia Phillies this season. The Phillies are a Major-League worst 31-62 this season and don’t have too many players worth noting for fantasy baseball reasons.
However, July 21 is a day where fantasy baseball owners should pay attention to the Phillies.
Aaron Nola will make his Major League Baseball debut and he’s already being owned in fantasy baseball leagues. However, if interested in picking him up this week, he should be available on most waiver wires.
Nola is the most prized pitcher in the Phillies Minor League system. Before the 2015 season, Nola was ranked as the 37th best prospect by MLB.com in Minor League Baseball. He was the seventh pick in the 2014 MLB draft from LSU.
He spent this season in Double and Triple-A, where he was 10-4 with a 2.39 ERA. He averaged 7.6 strikeouts per nine innings this season and his WHIP was 1.052.
He’s logged 109 innings this season already, but he should get an opportunity to flash what he can do at the big-league level for at least a few starts. It’s unclear how long the Phillies will use him, but fantasy baseball owners at this point could be desperate for a quality option off the waiver wire.
Owners are already picking him up, so if interested, it would be wise to grab him now off the waiver wire.
