Brandon Crawford doesn’t have a great track record for fantasy baseball owners.

He owns a .245 career batting average. He doesn’t steal bases. And he doesn’t really do much in the RBI and runs category.

But, the mid-week waiver wire is approaching, and the San Francisco shortstop is on a hot streak.

Crawford is batting .450 in the last five games with a .500 on-base percentage. He also has eight RBIs in that time and five runs. Will those numbers stick? Based on his past performance, the simple answer would be no.

However, Crawford is showing more from the plate overall this season.

For the season, Crawford is batting .285 with six home runs, 20 runs and 25 RBIs. He ranks first in RBIs and home runs, third in on-base percentage, fourth in runs scored, and is in the top 10 in batting average by shortstops.

Likely scorned by past season disappointments, the majority of fantasy baseball owners have neglected to put Crawford on their rosters. For the first part of the season, Crawford ranks among the best shortstops in MLB.

Fantasy owners looking for a jump start in production from an infielder could do a lot worse than Crawford at the moment.
