Every once in awhile, a player comes out of nowhere to provide something unexpected for a fantasy baseball team.

Mike Bolsinger is that man.

The Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, who can be picked up as a relief pitcher providing even better fantasy value, is on fire.

In his four starts this season, he’s allowed two earned runs in 25 1/3 innings and is 3-0. If his last two starts are any indication, he’s only getting better.

In his recent two starts, he hasn’t allowed a run in 14 innings. During those two outings, he has 14 strikeouts, while allowing two walks and four hits.

When the mid-week waiver happens Wednesday, Bolsinger will be a hot item and will cost more than the usual waiver pick-up. Fantasy baseball owners should be ready to put together a competitive auction price in case other league members take advantage of Bolsinger’s next start Friday.

Bolsinger does face a difficult assignment Friday at St. Louis, but even if he turns in a sub-par performance, fantasy owners shouldn’t make any rash decisions on letting go of Bolsinger. This is only his second year in MLB, and while his season last year doesn’t give much hope with going 1-6 with a 5.50 ERA, he may have learned enough in his first stint that he’s going to make the most of his second opportunity.

Be ready to spend a lot Wednesday to get Bolsinger off the waiver wire. Don’t worry about spending the extra amount, as Bolsinger gives fantasy owners a chance at producing quality numbers in several categories.
