HOT

Joe Panik

San Francisco second baseman Joe Panik is still not owned in the majority of fantasy baseball leagues. That will surely change soon.

Panik is producing as well as any other second baseman in the last month. He ranks third in batting average among second baseman in the last 30 days at .364 and second at on-base percentage at .433.

His other numbers aren’t bad either.

He’s first in RBIs in the last 30 days with 15 RBIs, third with four home runs and fourth with 21 runs.

Overall for the season, he ranks in or near the top five in the majority of fantasy baseball statistics. He shouldn’t be available on the waiver wire right now. But he is in some fantasy baseball leagues, so pick him up, even if second base isn’t a position that needs an immediate fix.

NOT

Robinson Cano

There likely isn’t a chance that Robinson Cano will disappear on fantasy baseball teams any time soon. But Cano has been near the bottom in most fantasy baseball statistical categories this year.

For the season, Cano is batting .242, with 22 runs, two homers, 19 RBIs and one stolen base. His batting average ranks 20th among the 23 regular starting second baseman and he’s ranked 21st in home runs with two.

As bad as those numbers have been for fantasy baseball owners, his last 30 days have been even worse.

He’s batting .198, with one homer, nine RBIs and seven runs. His batting average is ranked 23rd among second baseman, and his runs are ranked 26th.

To illustrate his problems, he’s struck out 23 times in the last 30 days, which is fourth-most among second baseman. For the season, he has the fifth-most strikeouts among second baseman.

Fantasy baseball owners will likely keep Cano until the bitter end. However, he hasn’t found his hitting stroke yet, so fantasy baseball owners will just have to hope Cano comes back, but in the meantime, if players like Panik are still available, it would make for a more balanced fantasy baseball roster.
