Three teams have byes this week in the Big 12, but that shouldn’t define week 4 of the Big 12 college football’s season.

Two conference matchups between Oklahoma State at Texas and TCU at Texas Tech will be marquee matchups for the conference this week. There is plenty we want to find out with those teams, and this week should give us much more information.

Other than that, we’re interested to see if Kansas can cover a game this season. The Scarlet Knights enter the game one point shy of a two-touchdown favorite. It will likely be the highest spread for the Scarlet Knights as a favorite for the remainder of the season.

TCU (-7) at Texas Tech

For some reason the Horned Frogs are still third in the most recent AP poll. We’re having a difficult time understanding that, considering TCU beat Minnesota by six points and struggled to defeat SMU last week. Let’s not forget that the Gophers beat Kent State last week in a barnburner, 10-7.

It’s not entirely TCU’s fault. The Horned Frogs have been decimated by injuries this season. And then two more defensive players were arrested this week. This is happening on a defense that lost six starters off of last year’s 12-1 team. And this is happening to a team that allowed 37 points last week to SMU.

There’s real problems on defense for the Horned Frogs and Texas Tech’s offense is rolling. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes looks like the real deal and after last week’s road win against the Razorbacks, the Red Raiders have the confidence to compete against TCU. We’re not sold on the Horned Frogs. The betting public is treating TCU like last year’s team, and so far this year, it hasn’t looked anything like it did last season. — Go against the chalk with Texas Tech

Maryland at West Virginia (-17)

Randy Edsall is in trouble at Maryland. The Terrapins haven’t been great this season and Edsall’s seat was already hot.

I mean, seriously, the Terps not only lost to Bowling Green, but they got hammered…at home. And West Virginia comes into this game with an impressive first two games, scoring by more than 40 points in each game.

On the surface, this should be a no-brainer. But that spread is awfully large, and Bowling Green is actually a pretty good MAC team. And the schedule for West Virginia has been against Georgia Southern and Liberty, not exactly on the same par with South Florida and Bowling Green.

The Mountaineers should win this game. But Edsall’s hot seat should give the Terrapins an edge with the cover, in addition to this being a rivalry game. Take the large amount of points in this one. — Go against the chalk with Maryland
