The biggest improvement in the college football season will be from week 1 to 2. That’s why I don’t take too much information from week 1 in the season.

I started the season well last week, going 5-1 against the spread, with a 2-1 record with favorites. Here’s my three best week 2 college football favorites.

Western Michigan at Michigan State (-7.5)

I hate teams in the midst of back-to-back road trips, especially when it means going to and from different time zones.

Western Michigan made plenty of noise in week 1 against USC, giving the Trojans all they could handle. The defense played well for the most part and the offense kept up with the nationally ranked Trojans for three quarters.

So naturally, we should believe Western Michigan would easily cover a touchdown against Michigan State, a team much worse than USC. Not so fast.

Western Michigan still must prove to me that it can replace the talent lost from last year’s team for multiple weeks before I believe in them. Western Michigan must compete with a team employing a much different style than USC, going on the road for a second straight week, with this time against a punishing running team.

Everyone is backing Western Michigan. I’m backing the Spartans. — Go Chalk with Michigan State

TCU (-3) at Arkansas

TCU is more talented than Arkansas and I’m only having to give up a field goal.

It was a tough year for quarterback Kenny Hill last season. He wasn’t just a plug and play quarterback for the Horned Frogs. With a year under his belt in this offense to go along with a bigger defense, this shouldn’t even be close.

Arkansas just isn’t as good as it was when it stunned TCU last year in double overtime. The Horned Frogs are a team I expect to make some noise in the Big 12 with 17 starters returning. Take the more athletic team with the Horned Frogs. — Go Chalk with TCU

Marshall at North Carolina State (-23)

Normally I hate giving away this many points, but I just can’t stay away from this game.

Marshall was one of the worst offensive teams in the nation last year, and while it did pull off a win in week 1, I’m not too sold against such a defense like North Carolina State’s. Despite some struggles in week 1, the Wolfpack still own one of the most talented defensive units in the ACC.

North Carolina State will bounce back after a tough opening against a better-than-advertised South Carolina team. North Carolina State is by far the most talented team in this one and I’m not selling their stock after one lost. Book the Pack. — Go Chalk with North Carolina State
