It’s not yet game week, but who cares?

The NFL is near.

And with it comes some surprising waiver wire additions to your fantasy football roster. Sure, the draft just finished, but it doesn’t mean you can’t comb the waiver wire for some possible sneaky additions to your team.

Here’s the best adds of the week.

Spencer Ware, RB, Kansas City

Good luck picking him up in the coming days. Head coach Andy Reid indicated earlier Friday that Ware was scheduled to get the starting nod for the Chiefs in week 1 against San Diego. It appears Jamaal Charles isn’t ready for a full workload and Charcandrick West also is battling an elbow injury.

The Chiefs appear to be ready to employ a running back-by-committee approach, but all signs point to Ware getting the lion’s share of the work.

So what does this mean? The Chiefs are heavily interested in running the football, so that makes Ware a top-10 option heading into week 1. With West and Charles both battling injuries, it’s unlikely that a committee approach will be the most used option.

Ware will see plenty of action, and according to NFL.com, he was owned in only 5 percent of leagues as of Friday night. That is likely to change in a hurry.

Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas

Do I believe in Prescott as a viable long-term option? Absolutely not. That’s why I drafted Tony Romo in my league on a late-round flier.

But he gets a favorable matchup in week 1, so if you have an average starting quarterback, like Ryan Tannehill on the road against Seattle, it’s wise to take a look at matchups.

Prescott is only a rookie, but that also means the Giants have only preseason tape on the youngster. They don’t know his weaknesses, meaning they can’t exploit them. Eventually NFL defenses will be able to do that, but for now, Prescott could be in the clear.

What also helps is that he can run, which is necessary for him to succeed at this level. He’ll use his legs and when he does throw, he’ll be going against by far the worst pass defense from a year ago in his home stadium.

You could do worse in week 1.

James White, RB, New England

New England running backs aren’t generally the most reliable players in fantasy football. And White likely won’t be that go-to player on a weekly basis, but he still deserves a backup role on your fantasy roster.

He’s currently owned in 6 percent of fantasy leagues on NFL.com, which is a ridiculous number for a player that will man much of the role Dion Lewis had for the Patriots. He’s not as good as Lewis, but White will still be able to produce in that role.

Getting a player who will see that much action is a boon for any bench in fantasy football. He’s not a great look as an RB2 or Flex on a regular basis, but grabbing him now ensures you won’t miss him if he does come close to numbers generated by Lewis.

When he saw more playing time in the final seven weeks of last year, he managed double-digit fantasy points four times. He’ll see similar action now and would be better than a stash running back languishing on your bench.
