My underdogs didn’t necessarily get the memo in week 1 of the college football season.

That’s OK, though, since I have plenty of room for improvement once again. I’ve already decided which teams would be my three favorites to back in week 2, so check out my week 2 college football underdogs that will cover the spread.

Underdogs: 0-3 ATS

Overall: 1-5 ATS

Utah at Northern Illinois (+10.5)

OK, I misfired on the Huskies in week 1 at Iowa. That won’t discourage me from getting back on the Northern Illinois bandwagon.

This is still an experienced team up front that moved the ball on occasion against Iowa’s defense in week 1. They just couldn’t find the endzone enough.

The Huskies kept up with the Hawkeyes for the first half, especially on the defensive side of the ball. That changed in the second half, but Utah won’t try to grind out a win, like the Hawks did. Iowa’s style wore down the Huskies.

Utah won’t be able to do that.

I hate having the Utes travel this far to the east against a supposed inferior opponent. Look out for a potential upset. — Go Against The Chalk with Northern Illinois

Kansas (+5) at Central Michigan

Backing Kansas may be one of the worst ideas of my life. Or it could be one of the craftiest.

Either way, it’s insane, but I still like my chances.

The Jayhawks are a dumpster fire. There’s no way else to sugarcoat basically being beat in all phases of the game against an FCS program.

However, Central Michigan isn’t much better. I’m going to give the Jayhawks a slight pass last week and I’m anticipating we’ll see a major improvement from weeks 1 to 2. This is a team that actually did return a lot of experience from the previous year.

Central Michigan, meanwhile, just doesn’t have much talent offensively, and showed that last week against Kentucky. This game is close, but I like the Jayhawks’ chances in this one. — Go Against The Chalk with Kansas

Arizona (+3.5) at Houston

I would have loved to jump on this game earlier in the week when oddsmakers overreacted by setting the line at minus-seven in favor of the Cougars.

That was quickly bet down to a more reasonable number, but I still like the Wildcats to win this game.

Arizona is in must-win mode and has the offensive firepower to keep up with Houston. Last week’s start was a dud, but it was against a quality BYU team.

The Wildcats need to shore up its defense, but they should have enough in the offensive arsenal to get past the Cougars. — Go Against The Chalk with Arizona
