Yes, the Houston Astros can score runs up and down its line-up. Call it a hunch or maybe there’s just not many great options on the waiver wire this time of year, but Oakland A’s starting pitcher Aaron Brooks can provide fantasy baseball owners a quality back-end start this week, even with a start against the Astros.

This opinion is based solely on one Major League start. But that start did end in a standing ovation.

Brooks went 7 1/3 innings against the Cleveland Indians on Aug. 1 and allowed one earned run, while scattering five hits. He hasn’t issued a walk in three appearances this season (two came earlier this season while in relief), and he mustered five strikeouts in his season’s only start.

Brooks should get more opportunities as the season goes on, giving fantasy baseball owners an opportunity to possibly pick up a steal if Brooks continues with his command. His walks per nine innings in the Minor Leagues, where he has spent the majority of his career, is 1.4, while his strikeouts per nine innings are 6.9.

Now, that’s the Minor Leagues, so it’s an entirely different ball game, but if it can translate to the Majors, then fantasy baseball owners could have a nice pick-up late in the year.

He has the opportunity to completely blow this start. However, he also could limit his walks, toss a few strikeouts and a limit an offense that hasn’t seen him before.

This may be going out on a limb, but Brooks has potential, and that’s likely all fantasy baseball owners can expect at this point in the season.
