HOT

Omar Infante

Kansas City Royals second baseman Omar Infante is at the center of the All-Star balloting controversy. He’s batting .229 for the season and he, along with seven other teammates, are leading their respective positions in All-Star voting.

Around this controversy, though, and it’s especially controversial for Infante, the Kansas City Royals second baseman is looking to at least play his best baseball during the national hot topic.

If looking at his last 24 games, Infante has had a roller coaster ride. In the first 17 of those 24 games, Infante had five hits. During his last seven games, he has 11 hits. Since his day off at St. Louis on June 14, Infante is 11-for-27 (.407), with eight runs.

For the entire season, Infante only has 18 runs.

There’s not much reason to trust Infante, seeing that he hasn’t been able to score runs or hit for average during the season as a whole. However, he’s been hot this past week, and maybe this controversy is bringing out the best in him.

NOT

Chris Young

The curious case of Chris Young continues. The Kansas City starting pitcher has a 1.98 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP. He also has five games where he hasn’t allowed an earned run this season.

However, it’s those games where he does allow earned runs that are the problem. Young has two shutouts in his last four games. He also has games where he’s allowed seven earned runs and six earned runs. His strikeout numbers aren’t much to count on either, with nine combined strikeouts in the last four games.

So what to expect from Young? His career ERA is 3.67. His career strikeouts per nine innings are 7.3. And he allows a career 3.4 walks per nine innings.

If looking at his career, his production from this year just won’t continue.
