These pitchers are not on the same level as of right now for fantasy baseball owners.

HOT

Jesse Chavez

The odd case of Oakland A’s pitcher Jesse Chavez continued May 31 with the New York Yankees. Nothing was too out of place in the final stat line with Chavez going eight innings, allowing no runs, while scattering seven hits, striking out six and walking no one. He even picked up the win.

So what’s so odd about Chavez? He is 2-5 this year with a 2.11 ERA. His run support has been atrocious, and he’s run into several bad luck outings. He’s allowed a combined 12 earned runs in his five losses, including an eight-inning effort where he allowed no earned runs.

The good thing about his record is that it has kept away the average fantasy baseball owner. He’s not owned in the majority of leagues, and with a WHIP slightly over 1 at 1.04, 51 strikeouts on the season, and the ability to allow no earned runs in starts (he’s done that three times), Chavez is an easy option to pick up on fantasy baseball teams.

NOT

Shane Green

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Shane Green has not been successful in his last three outings.

He’s allowed 15 earned runs in his last 11 2/3 innings. All three of those decisions have resulted in losses for the right-hander. His record is still 4-4, but those wins seem long ago, with his last victory on May 15 against St. Louis.

His season’s ERA is at 5.19, with a WHIP at 1.27 and 39 strikeouts. This just shows how deceiving records can be, with Chavez sitting at 2-5 with a better ERA and WHIP, and more strikeouts, while Green is still at .500 without much to showcase in the major fantasy baseball pitching categories.

Fantasy baseball owners are dropping Green at a rapid pace, and he will likely sit on the waiver wire for a lengthy period of time.
