Jon Niese is finally injury free.

The New York Mets starting pitcher has battled injuries throughout his career, missing time in each season as a starting pitcher. So far in 2015, he’s on the mound and producing at a rate that fantasy owners should take a second look when determining who to pick up in the mid-week waiver wire.

Niese is 3-2 with 25 strikeouts, a 1.45 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. He also will take the mound Thursday, giving fantasy owners a back-end start this week, to go with a probable two starts next week.

This week’s game will feature Niese against Travis Wood of the Chicago Cubs. Next week’s outings will feature games against the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Those obviously aren’t slam-dunk wins, but Niese has shown this year that he can produce at a rate sufficient for ownership in fantasy leagues.

In six starts this season, he’s allowed one earned run in four of the starts. The other two starts featured no earned runs and four earned runs. He doesn’t provide many strikeouts, but he’s limited walks, providing fantasy owners with above-average numbers in earned run average and WHIP.
