When the waiver wire occurs Sunday, consider these two options as possible additions to fantasy baseball teams.
Justin Turner
Los Angeles third baseman Justin Turner doesn’t seem to be going away.
Turner has not only been one of the best third basemen, but one of the best players in Major League Baseball in the last 30 days. He’s batting .352 during the last 28 games, ranking him seventh in MLB in batting average. He also owns a .406 on-base percentage, putting him 15th in MLB in that category.
Among third basemen during the last 30 days, he ranks first in batting average and on-base percentage. He also ranks in the top-six in runs, home runs and RBIs among third basemen during the last 30 days.
Turner does have plenty of experience, but hasn’t been an everyday player in the past. With him getting more play, he should be watched for tailing off. However, he does own a career .285 batting average.
His ownership has skyrocketed in the last week, and it likely won’t stop, so fantasy baseball owners should make sure to not miss out on Turner this coming week.
Matt Duffy
It’s unusual to put two players from the same position on this list, but for some reason, fantasy baseball owners are missing the mark on owning two of the best players in the last month.
San Francisco third baseman Matt Duffy hasn’t quite been as good as Turner, but Duffy is likely available in most fantasy baseball leagues. Duffy is ranked fifth at 17 runs in the last 30 days, along with being ranked top-10 in batting average and RBIs among third basemen in the last 30 days.
With recent injuries to the Giants, Duffy also is getting more time toward the top of the lineup, meaning he should get more at-bats and better opportunities to drive in runs in the near future.
This is his first full year, so fantasy baseball owners don’t know what to expect from month-to-month. However, Duffy seems to be improving, and fantasy baseball owners could do a lot worse at the position.
