Eventually fantasy baseball owners will jump on the Mike Pelfrey bandwagon. Until then, you might as well pick him up this weekend off the waiver wire for a two-start week.

He will take the mound against the Red Sox and the Milwaukee Brewers this week.

Pelfrey is 4-1 this season with a 2.77 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. He isn’t going to get big strikeout numbers, but he’s able to produce in the wins, ERA and WHIP categories. He’s given up one run in four different starts, and he’s been one of the big reasons for the surprise start by the Minnesota Twins.

Can Pelfrey keep this up? His past says no.

In seasons where Pelfrey has started in 29 or more games, he’s turned in sub-4.00 ERAs twice. His career ERA is 4.47 over his 10-year career, while only averaging 5.1 strikeouts per nine innings.

Fantasy baseball owners are likely staying away from Pelfrey because of his past. While the Twins are hot, there’s no reason to stay away from Pelfrey for the time being. Be aware, though, that if it starts to get bad, it can get bad in a hurry.
