Wilin Rosario

Colorado Rockies catcher/first baseman Wilin Rosario can add versatility to fantasy baseball rosters.

Rosario has seen action as a catcher, first baseman and designated hitter this year, and during the last month, he’s been a quality option as a starting catcher in fantasy baseball, if he’s available in that position.

Rosario is batting .313 in the last month, good enough for sixth-best among catchers in Major League Baseball. He also owns 10 RBIs in the last month, just missing the top-10 among catchers.

As a first basemen, Rosario doesn’t stack up as well statistically, so his value hinges on being considered a first baseman/catcher in fantasy baseball leagues. If you’re an owner looking for a catcher from Colorado, Rosario is the best option.

NOT

D.J. LeMahieu

July has been equally as cruel as June was to Colorado Rockies second baseman D.J. LeMahieu.

LeMahieu has yet to collect a hit this month, as he is mired in a 0-for-14 slump in the last four games.

Those numbers are part of a dismal past 30 days, where LeMahieu hit .217 in the last 26 games with an on-base percentage of .272. Fantasy baseball owners can still depend on LeMahieu to steal bases and score runs, which he has notched the third-most runs among second baseman in the last 30 days with 17, and has five stolen bases during that time, ranking fourth among second basemen.

However, if he continues to stay off the base paths, those numbers also will dwindle. His ownership has gone down in fantasy baseball leagues, but it hasn’t dropped completely off the radar, likely due to his ability to still score runs.

LeMahieu does contribute to fantasy baseball teams, but his inability to do well in multiple categories will likely lead to increased scrutiny by fantasy baseball owners.
