Houston Astros first baseman Chris Carter is heating up. Now’s the time to either pick him up on the waiver wire or package him in a trade.

Carter is only batting .201 for the season, but don’t let his lack of average fool you.

He’s batting .253 in the last 27 games, good enough to be ranked 15th among first basemen during that time. If that doesn’t excite fantasy baseball owners, his on-base percentage should. His .385 on-base percentage is sixth-best among first basemen in the last 30 days, and that includes a group with Paul Goldschmidt, who has a Little League on-base percentage at .525.

Carter’s bat is swinging for power, too, with five homers and 15 RBIs in the last 27 games. His 15 RBIs are good enough for 11th best among first basemen during this time period.

Carter has proven in the past to be able to hit homers, with 29 and 37 home runs in the past two seasons respectively. He also has more than 80 RBIs in those seasons, meaning that Carter is likely to have a much more productive second half of the season.

His first part of the season started out slow, but with his recent ability to get on base and drive in runs, he should be in the conversation for more ownership in fantasy baseball leagues.
