Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton and Chicago Cubs catcher Kyle Schwarber are gaining steam in fantasy baseball leagues.

For Schwarber, he’s earned the pick-ups, while Buxton is likely being taken in futures leagues to make sure he doesn’t slip through the cracks.

The biggest problem with both of these players is that fantasy baseball owners don’t know if either one of them will stay in Major League Baseball this year. In fact, it appears that Schwarber, despite batting .462 in five games this year, will be sent down to the Minor Leagues soon.

Buxton, on the other hand, is batting 2-for-22 during his first seven games. It appears he will continue to remain in the starting line-up, even though he’s batting .100 with two runs.

If you’re in a futures league, it makes sense to pick up both of these prospects only if there’s room on the roster. Schwarber may not provide another statistic for the rest of the year, and even though Buxton is a prized prospect, it may take awhile before he gets his footing in Major League Baseball.

If you’re not in a futures league, go ahead and ride out Schwarber for as long as he stays in MLB and pass on Buxton. Buxton is in a crowded outfield position in fantasy baseball, and there are several players available on the waiver wire in the outfield.
